미국 풍경화가.
1801년 영국에서 출생.
1818년 가족과 함께 미국 오하이오주로 이민.
펜실바니아미술학교 졸업.
1825년 뉴욕으로 이주.
뉴욕주 허드슨 밸리에서 풍경화를 그림.
장엄하고 신비로우면서도 환타지 풍의 터치로 자연을 주로 그렸다.
허드슨파Hudson River School의 설립자.
낭만파의 한 부류인 하드슨강파를 주도한 화가.
