지배권과 남성성의 관계가 핵심. 대담한 원근법 실험.
시각(공간 감각)에 대한 깊은 관심, 시각적 경험을 포착하는데 몰두.
1874년 부친으로부터 막대한 유산 상속.
인상파 화가들의 경제적 후원자. 평생 독신.
